Macadamia Cherry White Chip Granola

Macadamia Nut Cherry White Chip Granola on Granola

Granola is something perfectly satisfying: it’s crunchy, it’s sweet, and it’s salty. This recipe is all of those things—plus, it’s heart healthy, with the right fats from olive oil and macadamia nuts, bound together with honey for just the right amount of natural sweetness, without any refined sugars. And if you want a little more sweetness and decadence, the sugar-free chocolate chips provide all that and more—with health in mind!

This time of year, I feel like everyone is even more focused on their health, especially with all those New Year’s goals. So for anyone wanting to make healthy changes, start by making this homemade, heart-healthy granola. It’s balanced with the perfect sweet-to-salty ratio, made with no added refined sugars, no highly saturated fat butters, and no highly processed oils. It’s also loaded with anti-inflammatory dried cherries for just the right amount of tanginess. This granola has no added preservatives, no unwanted sugars, no dyes—and you know every whole, natural ingredient that goes into what you’re eating. How does that sound when it comes to eating more whole and healthy this year? It’s not about eating less—it’s about eating the right balance of food that creates sustainable change, with heart health in plain focus.

One of my favorite food combinations that’s both tasty and healthy is a yogurt parfait—which relies heavily on granola. And homemade granola is always the way to go. Store-bought granolas are often full of added refined sugars, highly processed vegetable oils, preservatives, and sometimes even added coloring! So I love relying on homemade granola for my go-to yogurt parfaits. You know that bowl full of tangy, creamy Greek yogurt, topped with crunchy granola to add just the right amount of texture for a perfect bite—and finished with fresh berries and any fruit you can imagine. When I was creating this recipe, I wanted a granola packed with antioxidants from sweet dried cherries, crunch and flavor from macadamia nuts, nuttiness from the oats, and white chocolate chip pieces to top it all off.

This granola is easy! The batch isn’t too large, so it’s already focused on healthy, balanced moderation. And it’s super tasty—I hope you enjoy it!

The Recipe Variations

  • Try any dried fruit:
There are so many dried fruits that add the perfect amount of tang and sweetness this recipe needs to stay deliciously balanced—cranberries, apricots, blueberries, raisins (grapes), etc.

  • Dark chocolate chunks or chips:
I know white chocolate chips aren’t everyone’s favorite—they can be a bit sweeter, while still adding a nice neutral, nutty base that this granola loves. Dark chocolate, however, adds a slight bitterness and less sweetness, which pairs beautifully with the cherries and macadamia nuts. Dark chocolate also provides antioxidants and nutrients compared to white chocolate (even sugar-free), making it a great, healthier swap for this granola.

  • Different nuts:
The nuts in this recipe are pretty interchangeable. If you want to switch things up with the dried cherries, try almond slivers or chopped roasted walnuts. These nuts still bring the right balance to the granola profile :)

  • Change up the natural sweetener:
Honey is always a favorite for granola—it has a caramel flavor that browns beautifully in the oven. But honestly, sweeteners like maple syrup or agave also bring depth of flavor and caramelized notes that pair nicely with the chocolate chips, tangy dried fruit, and buttery nut flavors.

Notes to Make the Best Granola

  • Spread & press:
After you’ve mixed the granola and spread it onto a prepared baking sheet, make sure it’s in an even single layer. Keep it slightly bunched together so you can gently press the wet mixture down. This helps it bake into perfect clusters that are easy to break apart at the end.

  • Turn halfway through the bake:
Using a fork, gently toss and turn the granola halfway through baking. This brings the oats and ingredients from the bottom to the top so everything bakes evenly during the second half. This step is key for achieving granola that’s crunchy all the way through—no soggy spots left behind. Be kind to those bottom pieces and your taste buds by mixing halfway through!

  • Let it sit & let it chill:
Once the granola is fully baked, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then top it with the chocolate chips. This allows them to melt just enough without turning into a mess or not melting at all. After the chocolate chips sit for 5–10 minutes, place the pan in the freezer for 10–15 minutes. This helps everything set perfectly so you can break it apart cleanly. These steps create the ideal texture and consistency, making this granola perfect for whatever you want to serve it with.

How to Make Homemade Healthy Granola

This granola comes together easily with simple ingredients and a few key steps that help create crunchy, delicious clusters every time.

Step 1: Prep the Oven & Baking Sheet

Preheat your oven to 325°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easy.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large glass or metal bowl, combine:

  • Rolled oats

  • Dried cherries

  • Chopped unsalted macadamia nuts

  • Sea salt

Use a wooden spoon or large metal spoon to stir until everything is evenly mixed.

Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients

Add the olive oil, honey, egg white, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Stir well until all of the dry ingredients are evenly coated.

Step 4: Spread & Press for Clusters

Pour the granola mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into an even single layer. Gently press it down with the back of a spoon or spatula—this helps create those perfectly crunchy granola clusters as it bakes.

Step 5: Bake Until Golden

Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 32–35 minutes, or until the granola is golden brown. About halfway through baking, gently stir the granola to ensure even browning throughout for the best texture in each bite.

Step 6: Add the Chocolate & Set

Remove the granola from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes. If using, sprinkle the sugar-free white chocolate chips over the top and let them sit for 5–10 minutes so they melt slightly.

To set the chocolate and make the granola easier to break into clusters, place the entire baking sheet in the freezer for 10–15 minutes, just until everything firms up nicely.

Step 7: Break Into Clusters & Enjoy

Once chilled, use your hands to break the granola into bite-size clusters. Serve it over yogurt, pancakes, baked fruit, or enjoy it straight from the jar for a crunchy, satisfying snack.
