The Traitor’s Game series book covers showing magic, war, and strong female lead in a fantasy world

✨ Series Summary (No Spoilers)

Kestra Dallisor, daughter of a powerful family, becomes a key piece in a dangerous game to overthrow the ruthless Lord Endrick. What begins as manipulation and survival quickly turns into something bigger—filled with rebellion, shifting loyalties, hidden identities, and a growing fight to reclaim an entire kingdom.

Along the way, Kestra is forced to choose:

  • loyalty or freedom

  • love or duty

  • trust… or survival

With an ancient weapon, rising magic, and a war that keeps escalating, this series builds into a story about identity, sacrifice, and fighting for something greater than yourself from book 1 all the way to book 3.

Is This a Clean Series?

Yes—with a bit more intensity than a light romance, but still very unquie in its own way.

  • No cruising or strong language

  • Light romance (kissing, emotional connection)

  • Some violence (battle scenes, but not graphic or gory)

It balances action, emotion, and values in a way that feels exciting without being overwhelming.

Is It a Quick Read?

Not exactly—but it’s worth it. Each book sits around 350–400 pages, so it’s more of a commitment. The chapters are longer, which makes it less of a “quick pick-up” read. That being said, once you’re in the story, it pulls you forward. It’s the kind of series you settle into rather than rush through. It’s a lot of fun once you're into it and cursing through the pages - trust me!

What’s to Love (The Pros)

There’s a lot to enjoy here—especially if you like layered fantasy stories.

  • A rich, detailed world that feels big and immersive

  • Strong themes of trust, loyalty, and working together

  • Multiple perspectives and motivations make the conflict feel real

  • The story builds with constant tension and high stakes

  • Each book starts in a way that immediately pulls you back in

  • The writing is clear and easy to follow, even with complex plotlines

  • Kestra is a strong, capable female lead with real growth

  • A compelling love triangle (Kestra, Simon, Basil) that adds emotional depth

  • Magic adds a unique layer without overwhelming the story

  • Powerful messages about responsibility, perseverance, and change

  • And one of my favorite parts: The idea that people can change—and that even in a dark world, there’s still something worth fighting for - hope.

What Could Be Better (The Cons)

A few things held this series back from being a full 5 stars:

  • The length—it takes more time and commitment to get through all three books

  • The ending feels slightly anticlimactic compared to the buildup

  • Some character decisions (and stubbornness) can be frustrating

  • Longer chapters make it harder to read in short bursts

  • At times, the drama feels a little heightened

None of these ruin the experience—but they’re noticeable in the story as you read.

YA fantasy novel The Traitor’s Game styled in a moody setup highlighting themes of war, loyalty, and hidden identity
Fantasy novel The Deceiver’s Heart styled with intense, emotional tones reflecting conflict and romance
Final book in The Traitor’s Game series styled with deep tones representing conflict, destiny, and powerful magic

⭐ Final Thoughts & Ratings Breakdown

  • The Traitor’s Game – ⭐ 4.4 / 5

A strong start with a unique premise and high emotional stakes. It really does feel like a game. The tension between duty and personal choice really stands out here. It drags slightly in parts, but overall it’s a compelling introduction and gets you set enjoy the rest of the series.

  • The Deceiver’s Heart – ⭐ 4.5 / 5 (My Favorite)

The most intense and emotionally driven book in the series. Relationships shift, stakes rise, and everything feels more real. It’s faster-paced and more engaging—but I did wish for deeper character backstories in certain moments and little more connection between some of the main characters.

  • The Warrior’s Curse – ⭐ 4.3 / 5

The darkest book of the three. It leans heavily into war, sacrifice, and struggle. While it adds depth and expands the world, it loses some of the lighter, hopeful tone from earlier books. The ending is surprising—but could have been stronger and I wanted more of closing end to feel satisfied.

  • Overall Series Thoughts

This is a fun, immersive fantasy trilogy that really pulls you into its world.

It’s detailed, emotional, and full of moving parts—but everything connects in a way that makes sense and keeps you engaged. While the ending could have been more powerful, the journey getting there is absolutely worth it.

If you enjoy:

  • strong female leads

  • rebellion and kingdom struggles

  • magic with purpose in more reality

  • slow-building romance

…this is a series you’ll want to try.
