Is this book clean?

Yes! All the books I try to share are meant to be clean. I believe the best stories are written without profanity, explicit sexual content, or graphic violence. Instead, they’re filled with good morals and values that create an uplifting experience for the reader—and Lakeshire Park is no exception.

There are moments of flirting, light kissing, hand- and arm-holding, and modest emotional arousal that reflect feelings of love throughout the book. But this is a proper romance, and most sexual content would have been considered scandalous during the time period—which, honestly, I’m quite grateful for.

Is it a quick read?

Yes! The print is large, and the chapter lengths are perfect for reading over time. The fast pace of the novel helps readers race through the 220 pages quickly. Overall, it’s a stand-alone novel that can be picked up and finished anytime, making it an ideal quick and enjoyable read.

Book Summary / Overview

Set in Brighton, England in 1820, this novel follows a young woman named Amelia Moore, whose life has been anything but easy. After her father’s early passing due to illness, her mother remarried. Not long after, she too passed away, leaving Amelia and her younger sister Clara in the care of their dying stepfather, Lord Gray—who wants nothing to do with them.

Desperate to secure a financially stable match for Clara before Lord Gray passing, Amelia jumps at an invitation to Lakeshire Park, sent by the charming Sir Ronald, whom Amelia met during last season’s London social events.

But their stay at Lakeshire Park brings unexpected twists. Mr. Peter Wood, who intends to also match his sister Georgiana with Sir Ronald, complicates matters. A competition quickly develops between Amelia and Peter, but as they form a bargain meant to keep them from interfering with their siblings’ matchmaking attempts, they find themselves being drawn closer to each other instead.

As Lord Gray’s passing becomes inevitable, Amelia must decide between a practical future—or love. What will she choose?

The Good

1. Characters

From the first page to the final chapter, the author does a wonderful job creating characters full of depth and realism. Each is rich in personality and emotion. The story is told from Amelia’s perspective, drawing you deep into her struggles and joys. The desperation she feels for her sister’s future feels genuine and relatable.

For me, a great romance needs emotionally resonant characters, and Megan Walker delivers that in Lakeshire Park. The story is heartwarming and true to the senses, making it a romantic literary work you won’t want to put down.

2. Humor

The playful banter between Amelia and Peter is witty and fun. Their growing rivalry is laced with clever sarcasm and builds into a lovely friendship that might become something more...

Between evening party games hosted by Sir Ronald and Lady Demsworth, adventurous outings with Peter, and sisterly conversations between Amelia and Clara, the book is filled with delightful amusement.

I found myself smiling and laughing at the charming teasing and subtle double meanings in many of the conversations. The humor is gentle and adds a light-hearted quality that makes the story even more enjoyable.

3. Good Values

  • Relationship Building

The story emphasizes the importance of genuine relationships—both in a romantic setting and in the family. Amelia’s connections with Peter and Clara show the value of honesty, openness, and truly getting to know another person. In a world increasingly driven by surface-level interactions, this novel is a lovely reminder of the depth and fulfillment real relationships can bring.

  • Honesty

A good book imparts values that stay with you—and Lakeshire Park emphasizes the beauty of honesty. The contrast between open communication and closed-off behavior is clearly shown through the characters' experiences. The message is simple but powerful: honesty strengthens relationships and builds trust, while hiding the truth only causes harm.

  • Loyalty

This novel overflows with loyalty, especially in the relationships between Peter, Amelia, Clara, and Sir Ronald. The devotion and trust displayed throughout the story foster a sense of faithfulness and integrity. These qualities are often lacking in today’s world, making their presence in the story especially meaningful.

  • Courage

Amelia is a strong and courageous character. She stands up for what she believes is right, even when others urge her to remain silent. Her actions show the power of integrity and conviction— honorable and important qualities. I loved how this book highlighted the strength of women and the impact of speaking up with grace and boldness.

4. Clear Writing

The writing is clean, fluid, and easy to follow. Megan Walker’s style flows smoothly, with well-constructed scenes and vivid descriptions. The emotional development feels realistic and human, helping the reader connect deeply with the story.

If a book is confusing or disorganized, it’s hard to stay engaged—but that’s not the case here. The plot is clearly organized, moving from one event to the next with ease. Lakeshire Park is a proper romance that’s well-paced, engaging, and thoughtfully written. I highly recommend it—you won’t be disappointed.

5. Old & New

This book mixes historical charm with a modern sensitivity that gives it a fresh perspective. Traditional elements—like marrying for financial security, seasonal courtships, and social status—are blended with more current views on romance, gender roles, and emotional openness.

The result is a rich, engaging story that honors the past while offering something new. I appreciated this balanced blend of old-fashioned structure and contemporary warmth that makes it its own piece.

My Downside(s)

The only downside for me was how quickly the story wrapped up. I would have loved to see more closure—more detail about side characters, wedding plans, and what comes next in some of the love stories. There were a few loose ends that left me with questions.

A clearer or more extended ending would’ve made me a much happier reader. Or better yet—a sequel! But even so, the story was delightful, and I’d gladly read it again. Maybe the ending is meant to leave space for imagination... which is kind of fun, I guess?

If you read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ending too!

Why 4.8 Stars?

I rated Lakeshire Park a 4.8 out of 5 for its clean storytelling, high-quality writing, and heartfelt romance. Here are a few more reasons:

  • The plot was cleverly constructed, with unexpected twists and a satisfying structure.

  • Amelia is a relatable, emotionally open character who connects well with the reader.

  • The teasing, rivalry, and unlikely romance built a love story full of warmth and surprise.

  • The suspense kept me reading late into the night, eager for what came next.

  • A small cast of characters made the narrative easy to follow and deeply personal.

  • The dramatic structure led to a unique and hopeful ending.

  • Character introductions and dialogue crafted drama and tension right from the start.

In Conclusion:

I loved Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker. It’s charming, creative, humorous, and detailed, with a storyline that’s both classic and fresh. The pacing, print, and plot make it a quick and satisfying read.

There’s no sequel, so it’s easy to pick up and finish between other books. If you’re looking for a sweet and clean romance that will entertain and uplift you—this is it.
